OKC Memorial

Last weekend we had the chance to visit the OKC Bombing Memorial Museum and Grounds. I didn't really know what to expect going in but they did a really good job displaying and telling the story of the bombing. It was really sad and moving. It was amazing to hear some of the stories of heros and victims. If you are ever in OKC I would highly recommend going...you will never forget it!

Bittersweet Victory!

Last night around 10 pm. when Tim was putting Mattie to bed he noticed that she had something stuck up her nose. Earlier in the day I had made popcorn and shortly after she was playing on her slide and ran up to me saying " Nose, ouch!" . I had her blow her nose a few times and she calmed down so I didn't think anything of it. Apparently, the kernel had gotten stuck up there.

We stayed up until 3 :20 am trying to get it out with tweezers. She would get really upset if we even touched her nose so it made for a long process. Finally this morning we were desperate. After reading other peoples' advice online and talking to my Aunt Fonree, who is a nurse at Banner Desert's Cardon's children center, we decided to try the method were you plug the opposite nostril and blow into their mouth. I tried it first and she just looked at me like I was crazy and said "No". Then Tim tried it with no luck. So I decided to blow dry my hair and finish getting ready to go to the Urgent Care or ER. Next thing I know Tim comes bouncing in holding in the prized kernel. He was so proud! He did the CPR method again with more force and it came flying out. This thing is huge...the pictures don't even do it justice!

Weekend Wrap Up

This weekend went by way too fast! Tim worked nights this week from 3:30 -12. At the beginning I was excited about this new schedule so that we could spend more day time together. However, now I prefer that Tim works days. It was nice to sleep in but it is a rude awakening when you have to get up early the next week. Mattie has always been a night owl and this week we couldn't get here to bed until about midnight every night. I have tried different tricks but nothing has worked....I hope when the baby comes some sort of miracle will happen and she will change her ways but I'm not counting on it!

Since Tim worked until 12 on Friday night, Saturday was our only real day this weekend. We hit up another hobby lobby where I found a baseball piggybank and cute frame. Then we went to the outlet mall that is pretty close to our house. We stopped and ate a pretzel in the food court and ran into a former co-worker and a retired controller that we know...its such a small world. Tim found some polo shirts for a really great price and he was excited about that. Later that night we decided to try out a mexican restuarant that was recommended to us. It is called Tacos don Nachos. It wasn't as good as home but it was alright.

Sunday was Stake Conferance. We went and sat with my Dad's cousin Art Bushman then went over to his house for lunch after. His house literally has a paved path to the Temple and church from his backyard. It was fun to get to know them better and hear Carpenter stories.

I have hit the 32 week mark in pregnancy. I just feel big! I haven't been sleeping real well lately, since I can only sleep on my sides my hips go numb really fast and I am constantly adjusting. Only 8 more weeks and then I will be up for a different reason. I got spoiled this week and went and got a pedicure and my hair done. It really helped to not feel so frumpy. Anyways, I better start doing something productive!

Day at the Park

We like to take advantage of the warmer days by going to the park. The parks are always crowded because everyone else feels the same way. Mattie is wearing an outfit that Tim put together. It looks worse with the jacket off...I was too tired to change it. Mattie refuses to let me pull back her hair, so its always in her face. It think its her way of rebelling because she does not like being here. We are off to pick up a slide that Tim ordered from Walmart. Hopefully she likes it!

We haven't been up to too much because we all have been sick! It seems like everyone that we run into is also sick. Tim was the first to catch the bug then gave it to me and last night as I was putting Mattie to be she was fevering. I'm hoping that she wakes up better today. Since I wasn't feeling too hot, I didn't make dinner and we decided to try a BBQ place that was recommended to us. It was sooo yummy! Jordan is definitely going to get fat on his mission!

We also made a trip to Hobby Lobby. I found this cute sign to put up in the little guys room. I want his room to be a baseball theme but I haven't had any luck/time with finding anything...so this is a start!

Last night we got our first snowflakes! I kept telling Tim that it was going to come and he didn't believe me. We have learned that we are true Arizonans and will be forever! The cold is not so bad but the wind just kills you! It makes everything feel so much colder. Mattie will go with me to put out the trash or check the mail and then she wants to run back inside. I really hope that it warms up enough to take her to the park. Last night we made a slide from pillows that entertained her for about an hour. I have been trying to really pay attention to her and spoil her here since this is such a big change to her normal routine and more changes are on the way. I found out the library does a reading/singing time for kids her age started next week that we will check out. Anyways, that's all I have for now. We are all looking forward to the weekend. Tim has Monday off and doesn't go to work Tuesday until 3:30 so it will be nice to have time to go check out something new here.

Battle Wound

Mattie has been sleeping on a queen size bed since we don't have a crib here. When we got here we decided to take the box spring off so that she could get on and off the bed. Well, that proved to be a bad idea because it created the perfect space for her to fall through between the headboard and mattress. It scraped up the skin right under her eye and I'm pretty sure people think that we are beating her. Hopefully it heals soon!

Yukon Temple

Today we arrived to church about 30 minutes early. Since the Temple and the church share the same parking lot, we decided to walk around and take pictures. The temple is tiny! Oh and I forgot to pack Mattie's dresses so she got a new one. She loves the bling on the front.

First day in OKC

Yesturday was our first whole day in Oklahoma. It was nice to have a little time to settle in before Tim started classes. We were able to get some groceries, find the FAA Academy, drive downtown and a little bit around Yukon. We found a cool park that Mattie loved. I wish I would have taken pictures but will have to another time. Tim went and checked out the gym. He found out that they have free childcare. So maybe we will have to see if Mattie would go for that. Our landlord told me that the library is just down the road, so I'm looking forward to taking Mattie and exploring. Last night we went on a walk around the block and meet the neighbors across the street. I got the sense that it is the party house. They invited us to have a bonfire at their house tonight...I doubt we will make it! Tim took the car today so that it could get registered. He called to report that he ran into a controller that just retired from Sky Harbor. He also found out that every other week his schedule will change. One week he will work 7:00-3:30 and the next 3:30 - 12pm. I think that actually might be nice to have him around in the mornings. Anyways, I hope I can figure out how to upload pictures so this blog isn't so boring! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

The Journey

Well, I'm happy to say that we made it to Oklahoma! The trip went better than we had hoped with a 19 month old. For Christmas, we had gotten a portable dvd for the car at a black friday sale. Mattie loved it! She is really hooked on this Barney video and watched it five or six times on the first day. Even when we stopped she did not want to get out of the car. It was such a miracle! I also did better than I expected, so the first day we stopped in Holbrook for gas and then Gallup, NM for lunch. We ate at McDonalds so Mattie could play in their play place. We got to Santa Rosa, NM around 4:30 pm. We decided to stay at La Quinta. It ended up being a good choice because they had a big breakfast spread. When we got to La Quinta, we noticed that the dvd player stopped working ..so we hoped that we could revive it in the morning.

When we got up the dvd player was still not working. It was a little frustrating because this was the first time that we had ever used it. We decided that we absolutely needed to get another dvd player to make it in peace the rest of the way. In the next town over they had a KMart. It was an hour away but Mattie made it...even though she wasnt too happy. After we got the new dvd player, we were finally on the road again. Not even five minutes into our trek, we came upon a semi that had rolled over. It was in the lane that we had been traveling in practically the whole trip. We were humbled to immediately think of what could of happened if we had not stopped to get a dvd player. I think that Heavenly Father knew that this was one of the only things that would have prevented us from continuing our journey as planned.

About the middle of New Mexico and throughout Texas, the drive was pretty boring because the land is so flat. Although, we did see a ton of cows. I think what really helped with getting through the long drive was listening to a book on tape. We definitley need to buy one for the ride home. We stopped in Amarillo TX and had some lunch then continued to Oklahoma. We closer we got to Oklahoma, the prettier the scenery got. I was surprised because I pictured Oklahoma being more like Texas. We made one more stop because Mattie was getting antsy. We stopped at an ice cream shop that Mel recommended called Braums. It was really yummy. We were happy to see one about a half a mile from our house too:)

Finally, we arrived in Yukon Oklahoma around four. We are really pleased with the area. There is a lot of building going on, so everything looks fresh and new. About a half a mile from our house is a grocery store, several restaurants, a gym that is included in our rent.

Christmas Events

Christmas was great this year. Tim and I were excited to see how Mattie would re-act to all her presents this year, since she is a little older. We woke her up about 7:30 and had her presents all laid out in the family room. We had boughten her a blow up ice cream truck that you put balls in. They are like the McDonalds playhouse ones. We thought that she would be excited about them because one of her favorite things to do is watch a little girl on youtube jump into a pit of balls. Anyways, when we brought her out she showed no reaction. So we thought maybe she just doesn't know that there are toys under the wrapping paper. We started opening her presents and she didn't seem very impressed. She hardly made a sound and just sat there. Her last present that she had to open was this kitchen that she had been eyeing from Target. It sings songs and has a light that you can turn on and off. When we opened that gift she said "Oh my gosh". Then when Tim was getting it out of the packaging she kept whispering " Oh my gosh" over and over again. It was hilarious. Apparently the other gifts just where not what she had wanted.

After opening presents at our house, we went over to my Mom's house. We got there around nine and they were just finishing breakfast. They had gotten up later that usual so we opened presents after breakfast. Mattie had fun being with her cousins and trying to steal their toys. At 12 we went to church with my Mom and Dad. Then later around 4 we went to Tim's parents house to have dinner and open presents over there.

Later that night, we came home and were pretty tired from the long day. I was outside doing stuff and Tim was on the couch reading a book. I heard Mattie crying at the side door so I brought her out with me and we took a little walk down the street to look at the lights. When we got back to the house I could tell that she was tired so I turned on some cartoons and rocked her to sleep. It was only 8:30 but we were ready for bed. When Tim came in he noticed that the pills on his night stand were missing and he asked me if I had taken them. They were Advil PM gel pills. I hadn't so we started searching for them. Tim found the wrapper in the trash but no pills. We got worried that Mattie might have taken them but at the same time we had a hard time believing that she did because usually she will spit something out if she doesn't like the taste. They were a light blue color though she may have mistaken them for candy. Anyways, Tim called poision control to see what we should do if she had taken them. They said that we should go check on her every twenty minutes to make sure that she responds to us touching her. Then they would call every hour to make sure she was alright. Around eleven we had just got done checking her when we heard her throwing up in her crib. So, our suspicions were right and she had taken the pills. Then next day I was surprised that she woke up at 7 and the rest of the day she was pretty pale and just not feeling good. I'm so glad that she ended up alright and we have learned our lesson!

Now, we are busy just preparing for OKC. I only have one day of work left. It will be nice not having to wake up at 5 am anymore....hopefully at least for a couple of months!

Busy, Busy, Busy!

I feel like I have been going full blast this past month! Besides all the get togethers with family and friends we have been preparing to leave for Oklahoma. We will be there for two months. We got new renters in the condo so we did way too many projects to get it ready...but it looks great! I'm so pleased with how it is looking. This time we installed a new dishwasher, new six panel doors throughout and fresh paint. I'm hoping that if we do projects everytime a new renter comes, by the time we can actually sell it the condo won't need anything done.

We also are going to have Jayson and Carrie stay at our house while we are gone. So, I have been trying to organize and get rid of stuff so hopefully they will enjoy their stay at hotel Martinez :) I have been looking for crib bedding for the new baby boy to be, but just haven't found any that I love. The only bedding that I found is super expensive. It kills me because I found some cute boy bedding for super cheap right after Mattie was born but I thought Tim might think I was crazy if I bought it. But, I have decided to not let myself stress over not having the nursery ready. Its not like they actually use it right after they are born.

Jordan left for his mission today. He is going to be a stud and we are going to miss him :) I think the next two years will go quickly though because we will be so busy with a new baby and new job. Speaking of jobs I only have three days left!

Today I finally finished the Christmas shopping. I hate how I always leave it to the last minute. Hopefully next year I will be better. Anyways, I'm looking forward to enjoying Christmas and the season for the next couple of days. Merry Christmas!

8 days!!

At the end of December I get to quite my job and officially become a stay at home momma! I have so many mixed emotions about this new change. It's a goal that we have been working towards for a while and now it is becoming a reality! Right now I am only working 2 days a week....and its still hard to leave my baby! But at the same time, it is nice to get out of the house and have some adult time. I think it would be easier if I didn't like my job, but I do. I'm excited to have more time to try new recipes, finish projects around the house, hopefully blog more and take care of my 2 babies :) I just hope I can survive the change...I havn't not worked since my junior year of high school. Like I said, I have so many mixed emotions but I'm more excited to stay home and be with my babies. It's where I know I'm supposed to be. Cheers to 2012!!
